I think Kilwa was most successful kingdom because of their trade. They controlled Indian Ocean trade and used Swahili to help traders communicate. So they must have got'en a lot of salt.

I disagree with you Zack. I think Great Zimbabwe was the most successful because they also gained wealth by trading goods but built stone incoshers by and without tools.

I disagree with you LIz because the wall was for decoration. Unlike The Great Wall of China it was used for protection.

I agree with Liz about the stone structures. Did you know that they didn't use any kind of glue for sticking the bricks together?

I agree Abby. I think their trade was pretty stable and successful and I found it very interesting that the wall was not built with any "glue" to hold the structure together.

I think Great Zimbabwe was the most successful because they built walls just to show their power. Also they controlled a little trade and taxed the traders. Their fall was because of the drought and overgrazing which made them move to a new location.

I find Ethiopia very successful. This is because of their churches. They built them underground, and they were made of red volcanic rock. I find this amazing because they had limited resources, yet still found a way to build these churches.

I think Ethiopia is the most successful because it lasted the longest. The way they built the 11 churches were interesting. They were along the red sea coast so`they had close water and able to trade easily.

I disagree with you, Delilah. I don't see how building underground churches can make a country successful. There are plenty of other reasons that Ethiopia is successful, but I don't think that reason is the best way to support it.

I feel that Kilwa was most successful, because they controlled the Indian Ocean trade. They were able to trade with places as far away as China, which I found interesting, and because of the Silk Road trade, the most likely got more goods than from China alone, and also got stuff that was imported into China, which I think made them more successful. I also think they were successful because they developed Swahili. It allowed them to trade with Arabic traders with speech, which I think allowed them to develop more of a connection with the traders from Arabia.

I think Kilwa was the most successful kingdom. They were known to be some of the best traders around and was one of the first African kingdoms to use iron weapons. The Kilwa also had control of the Indian Ocean trade, so the tax made them wealthy, and allowed the language of Swahili to form.
