I would rather be a merchant because even though merchants are a lower class they do way less. All they do is trade the things that the artisans make and then get corn for it. It is way more work to be a peasant and have to plant all of that corn.
I agree with Anabel B because you are very wealthy. You also get a lot of food from getting it from the peasants and artisans from trading the things that they make
I agree with Anabel because you can get rich very easily. As a bonus, when you are a merchant you don't do any work.
I agree with Annabel I think that I would rather be a merchant. You get to have all the resources that the peasants and artisans made.
I disagree with Annabel about being a merchant. All of your reasons you would be a merchant revolve around laziness, greed, and wealth. I think that if you are a merchant you are unliked because you are taking other's hard work and getting rich off of it. To you this may sound like a pretty good deal but to me it sounds unfair. I also believe this is an unhealthy way of life because you just rely on others. I would rather know that what I produce is the best I can do. I see that it is only fit for me to be a humble peasant because of the reasons that I just stated. I feel that if I was a merchant my life would feel pitiful compared to the ones who do so much in our society. They protect us, give us land, feed us, and arm us and I would only trade with them to take away their work for money. This is all I would do as a merchant so I think that it is simply unfair for me to want to become wealthy off of others in Feudal Japan.
Sofie, you make great points about merchants being seen as lazy and greedy. But I'm sorry to say, I am going to have to side with Annabel here. Though it is definitely unfair that merchants get rich off the hard work of others, that would be the life for me. I would not like to be a peasant who works 12 hour days with back breaking labor only to barely make enough money to get by. I dont need the respect of my peers, I need money $$$$!
I agree with sofie because all the merchants are is selfish . Also because the peasants get protection and land from other groups . This is why I agree with sofie
You have very good arguments but I disagree with you. Reason being even if you are a greedy person you are still getting more money which will later on help you survive. I would rather be a merchant because I want the more money that I can get without having to work my hardest even if it's not the best way to get money.
I agree with anabel. All they do is trade and they don't really have to work. Also I wouldn't want to be a peasant who worked for most of the day.
I would like to be a merchant. I would want to be a merchant because I would get rich off of other people's hard work. If you were a merchant, you might be disliked, but you will live a good life.
I would rather be a peasant.I would rather be a peasant because even though they have to work for long hours , at least they help other classes in the feudal pyramid. Unlike the merchants help no one but their selfs. Also , I would rather be a peasant because you get protection from the Samurai soldiers ,and then you get land from the Daimyo . Unlike the merchants get nothing. This is why I would rater be a peasant then a merchants .
I would be a merchant because the Merchants are very wealthy. They barely have to do anything. All they have to do is get supplies from the peasants and artisans and trade it for money.
I defiantly agree Logan,(oh my god I just realized that you have wolverines name)anyway, I do agree because the merchants were very wealthy, and since they barley had to do anything, they could make a bunch of things all at once so that each time the artisans came to give the item to the samurai, you could already have that item built.
I would rather be a merchant than a peasant. I would rather be a merchant because they make a lot more money than peasants. I would also rather be a merchant because they do less work.
I would prefer to be a peasant in the feudal society instead of a merchant. I feel this way because I would be working hard and not having to rely on others for money. I think that in order for me to live a successful life I must fill my life by being useful and helping people around me. Merchants also are unliked because they earn their living off of others work. In our society today it has become a "social norm" to be liked and we all have felt the urge to be popular among peers before. I do this myself and if I was a peasant I know I wouldn't change. I also would get a plot of land from samurai for me to farm on and keep my house on. These are the reasons that in my eyes, I would rather be a useful, liked peasant.
I don't a agree with you Sofie for various reasons. The most important being, the Samurai will only give the rice that they think you are worth. Anyways you won't be known for making rice because if you make the most they will be jealous of you.
Sorry Sofie, but I have to disagree with you. True, yes, peasants were better people than merchants. But, in life, you have to to put certain things (like money) first or you will not get by. I rather support my family and be greedy, than be productive and starved.
I agree with Sofie I would rather be a Peasant. yes money, food, and taking care of your family is important. Money is not the most important thing though spending time with your family, knowing you accomplished something is the biggest award of them all. Plus, people with lots of money turn out to be snobby most of the time but some don't end up that way. So,I'd rather be a Peasant then be a snoppy person with a lot of money.
I would want to be a merchant because they have a really easy job. Although some people think that a merchant's job is wrong and should not be a job it pays very well. In all I would be a merchant because you would do whatever it takes to survive or pay for your family to live.
I think that the better thing to be would be a Merchant. You get to have a bunch of money without doing any actual work. You also get a lot of rice from what the peasants make, and they barley get any of there own rice.
I agree with Cole. I agree because merchants get the most amount of money
I agree with you Cole but think of this... The peasants are using all of their might to grow as much rice as they possibly can so their arms are getting stronger and stronger. Then say they are strong now and the merchants upset the peasants, the peasants would beat up the weak merchants.
I agree with Cole K. I agree because Merchants become rich and I would rather be rich then have hard labor and be poor.
I agree with Cole even though I think that merchant's just steal everything for a job I would still pick it. I would be a merchant because there is no real work involved and you are still being paid, like Cole said. When the Artisans make things you just take it and get paid anyways. I would choose to be a merchant too.
I rather be a merchant than a peasant. In the grand scheme of things, having money to support your family is more important than being a morally good person. It is sad, but that is how our society is today and it was most likely the same back then. All peasants really did was grow food they did not even get to keep, but merchants made a lot of money off of things they did not even create.
I agree with you Haley. Family is more important than being a nice person. I mean money can save your family and such.
I agree with you Haley. It's more important to support your family than it is to be seen as a morally good person. Even though you should help out other people your family should come first and you need to help them out as much as possible.
I would rather be a peasant because, yes the merchants make more money and are lazy, but I would rather work for what I deserve, then let it just come to me. So that is why I would rather be a peasant.
I would rather be a merchant because then I would have a better chance of living because I would get payed. Where peasants have to steal and if they get caught stealing then they would be killed.Yes the peasants to are higher on the Feudal pyramid but still they have a better chance of dying than the merchants do.Also merchants don't have to steal.Like I said they get paid by the samurai when they collect armor and rice and give it to the samurai. So I think that being a merchant would be better than being a peasant
I agree with you Marissa. I would have a better chance at surviving as a merchant than as a peasant. Eventually you would die because you wouldn't have enough money and food unless you stole a lot of to survive. That's why I would rather be a merchant than a peasant, even though peasants are ahead of merchants in the Feudal Pyramid.
I honestly would like to be a merchant. I mean ok your higher class as a peasent but when your a merchant you are super wealthy. So i would rather be a merchant.
I would rather be a merchant than a peasant. Even though I would be at the bottom of the class system, but I would get rich fast. If I was a peasant I would have to work a lot harder, and not get rewarded very well. So, I would rather be a merchant.
I would rather be a merchant. And that is because you will get money very easily. I mean I am not being greedy but if you are a peasant what is the point if you are not really going to get paid with anything. So the real question is would you be rich for no work or work a lot but get nothing back?
If I was part of the feudal system I would want to be a merchant rather than a peasant. Peasants have to work really hard to provide food for everyone and get nothing in return and they had to steal the food that they made in order to survive. If you were a merchant than you barely have to do any work and you get a lot of money. Even though it isn't fair that you get money off of others hard work, I learned in the S.P.A.M game that being a peasant is hard work and I don't want to be a peasant again.
I would rather be a Peasant even though I would love to have lots of money. It's not fair that Peasants do all the hard work but the Merchants get the money. I would rather die without the money, then have the money and know I really don't deserve it.
I would be a merchant not a peasant because you become rich and not have 12 hour work and then barely get any money. So that is why I would be a merchant not a peasant.
I totally agree with you Tyler H. I would prefer the easy way out and basically get money for free.
I would choose to be a merchant because even if they do not do any of the work they do still get a lot of money. Back then if I had to choose being a good person without money or bad person with money I choose bad person. I need more money to survive and it would be a much easier concept to just earn it from others even if it's not the nicest thing to do.
I would rather be a merchant. My life would be so much easier because I would gets lots of money from really doing nothing. That means I would be able to pay for my food and I would get less work hours.
I would like to be a merchant, mainly because one of my hobbies is building things that are unique or interesting. I would also like to be a merchant because I don't have to steal the food I can just get some for making armor, even though greed exists, I still might have to steal a little bit. I would also like this because building thing are very interesting and finding out new ways of putting things together is also interesting, and it would defiantly be a good use of time in my opinion, and I feel building tools, armor, and weapons are a great key component to survival.
