I think the Magna Carta is important because it gave other people with little power a hope that they wouldn't be punished or discriminated against by King John. This might have been one reason it was important and I also think it set laws in "stone" instead of King John making them up whenever he wanted to. I think the Magna Carta is interesting because it gave the King less power! I always thought the King had all the power, but then the Magna Carta came out and King John had no choice!

I agree because it did help people actually live in live in less fear of getting killed by the king. I was also shocked when I learned the king had to follow rules.

I agree with Jessica. I like the point that you made about the laws being set in stone, because they definitely weren't officially decided before the Magna Carta. The king could make up new rules whenever he wanted.

I agree with you because, all of the laws are still used today. If king John didn't sign it our lives would be much different.

I think the Magna Carta was important because it made royalty follow laws. No longer can royalty do whatever they please. It made things fairer for people. I thought what it did was interesting.

I believe the Magna Carta was important because it made kings follow rules instead of letting him run free killing and stealing. I think the most interesting part is that the peasants were not helped by the Magna Carta only the nobles. This is interesting because I think it was really selfish of the nobles.

I think the Magna Carta is important because it limited the king's power, and made him closer to having the rights of a normal citizen. He finally had to follow the rules that the nobles had, but the normal (non-rich) people/citizens still had to follow different rules, so he still wasn't equal. The most interesting part in my opinion is that the citizens were not helped out by this at all. It is really only benefiting the nobles, since the king is losing his power. I is also surprising to me that the nobles succeeded in forcing the king to sign the Magna Carta because before he signed it, he was supposed to be in control of everyone, but he obviously wasn't since the nobles forced him into this.

I agree. The peasants didn't benefit from this at all. Though I don't find it surprising that the nobles forced the king to sign it. It was death or you sign it. Signing it seems so much easier comparing to death.

There are many reasons why we had the Magna Carta and why it was important. One reason was that it limited king's powers. Now the kings and the other people were even. This made people more happy. Also Thomas Jefferson used the Magna Carta.

The Magna Carta is so important because otherwise it would be total chaos if kings were allowed to kill people whenever for no reason. Also the Magna Carta has been used for 800 years which already tells you how truly significant it is to our history.

I think that the Magna Carta is important because it helped give nobles a sense of hope, like they weren't going to get randomly slaughtered or that their king won't take away their land. The most interesting thing about the magna carta is how they were actually able to get the king to sign it. I mean, the last thing a king wants to do is give up their power, let alone to their nobles, the people that follow them. I just find it interesting that a stubborn king like King John actually gave up his power. (I am keeping in mind that he was basically forced to do so)

I agree with you Abby. Although he was basically forced to do so, I can think that someone would eventually overthrow him or kill him if he didn't. But just because your queen or king, doesn't mean your the different from everyone else... YOU ARE JUST THE SAME!

I think that the Magna Carta is important. I mean it wouldn't be fun for anyone if your vking just randomly slaughtered innocent people, take away some of your land, money etc. So when King John signed the Magna Carta, I bet so many people were happy. No one ever wants something like that. I mean say our president could do anything to his liking, I think that a lot of people would disagree with him one, and two it's not fair to people... AT ALL!

The Magna Carta is important because it was the first book that stated that the king had to follow the same rules as everybody else in the kingdom. The Magna Carta was forced to be sign by King John in 1215. He signed because the peasants forced him to sign or die and of course he signed the Magna Carta.

I agree with you Riley, the Magna Carta being used for 800 years, after it was signed, shows how important of a role it plays. We some of the laws it states in our laws today. As far as it goes, limiting King Johns power and stuff, it mainly helped nobles. Which as you say makes them happy, and everyone else happy limiting the king's power.

I think the Magna Carta is important because it did limite King John's power which ment he couldn't just do whatever he wanted to do for example, like telling everyone to change religions if they don't they get exacutied or if they get caught practicing it they get exacutied but if they follow the rules they live a happy free life. The reason I think it's interesting is because I thought it helped everyone but it only helped the people who made it which is the nobels so it's kind of interesting that it only helped one group of people.

I think the Magna Carta was important for many different reasons. First of, the Magna Carta was the first charter to limit the king's power. Since back then the king could do about whatever he wanted! So the nobles had rebelled in 1214, and then force King John to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. The nobles could cause problems if they continued to rebel. So if King John didn't sign the charter, then the kingdom would probably crumble. As the nobles didn't even expect King John to sign it, but forcing him to sign the Magna Carta worked. The Magna Carta was also very important for another reason. The Magna Carta has been around 800 years from when it was first signed, and it developed some of the laws we use today. The Declaration of Independence uses some things from the Magna Carta. This could've meant, that without the Magna Carta, law could've been different. The Magna Carta also stopped the king from bossing the pope, or the church, and giving the church or pope orders. In the 13th century, King John was quarrelling with the pope and the church. The pope banned church service by this happening. People started to freak out since King John caused the pope to suspend church service. People started thinking, is this going to cause us not to go to Heaven? The Magna Carta stopped this from happened in the future as the king couldn't control the church. These summarize a portion that can show how important the Magna Carta was. Since we use laws from the Magna Carter in our own laws, the Magna Carta is a countless artifact, and it's very important to our history!

I think the Magna Carta was important because it helped out the minority and made it so the king won't abuse his power. I thing the most interesting thing of the Magna Carta is that some of it's rules are still used today, some of the rules are used in our laws. This is important because it shows that not all the rules were never used afterwards.

I think the most important part of the Magna Carta is the fact that it allowed Human Rights to exist. It helped with the making because the declaration of human rights is based off some parts of the Magna Carta. So without the Magna Carta it is very likely that we would have less rights.

I think that the Magna Carta was so important because it established new lines that the king could not cross. If it had never existed then the king would be free to commit all the crimes he wanted. And who knows? Maybe today we would be ruled by a king and not a president.

Magna Carta is important because King John did not have the ability to kill innocent people if he wanted to and it promised the protection of church rights. I bet the people of England were thankful when after the First Barons' war in 1217 it formed a a part of the peace treaty agreed at Lambeth and the document was later named Magna Carta.
