I think that the art in Benin is most impressive. Art is such a big part in our world today which is cool to know that it is still around today. If we didn't have art today, the world would be plain and empty. Art also probably made Benin such colorful place.

I agree with Jessica. Art is VERY often seen today, our classrooms are covered in art and thanks to Benin that is the norm. I totally prefer a colorful world.

I disagree because although art is important trade is more important. Art is a want while supplying your family with the food they NEED to survive is life or death. I would still want to have art to have joy.

I totally agree with you Jessica. I also think it is fascinating that their kind of art is still around today. I also liked how you said that the world would be plain and empty.

I think the most impressive of all these cultures is between Ethiopia and Great Zimbabwe. I think this because these to cultures had something very useful and something that takes lots of time to time to build/accomplish. Although others opinions will differ and lean toward kilwa and their churches I would disagree because I believe that you can just build a regular church and it will still act the same as these stone churches. I also disagree with Benin because I think that cultures create amazing art pieces even if their not from Benin, and also because it is your opinion if art looks good, and everyone can make art whether its good or not.

I disagree with you Josh. The walls are not really helpful today and aren't really used. The volcanic churches are not common today either. I like to think of how the inventions back then, help us today.

I do agree that the churches are not that common today, but I do disagree with you how about you said the walls are not impressive. They had no super glue or duct tape to connect those walls ( no concrete ) and they were massive. It takes skill to make those walls. You did not mention anything about how I said Ethiopia is also impressive. They had massive amounts of trade which I believe is difficult to accomplish.

Benin's art is the most impressive in my opinion. There was other churches before the volcanic rock churches so they did not improve us today. Art is used now to express simplicity or perplexity, bottom line art has changed us as people only because there is no limit. Art can be anything and thanks to Benin it IS everything.

I agree with you. The art in Benin was really impressive. Along with music and song in general, it had a huge impact on what we do today with art and music.

I agree with Alaina. Art really has come a long way and that is thanks to Benin. Although the volcanic churches are super amazing, we don't really use them for everything. However, in our schools we teach art, so it is really important.

Although everything was impressive, I think the art in Benin was most impressive. Imagining how it was back then, the art compared to boring curved streets seemed great. It was probably a great distraction for the eye

I find that Benin was the most impressive. Not only with the eye catching art, but with music that was very impressive. Although, the stone churches were amazing... I still think that the art an music of Benin has a bigger impact on us, and is more impressive.

I agree Abby, I think Benin's art was the most impressive too. I like that even though there are not many resources in Africa, the people of Benin could make something beautiful from plain wood.

I think that the art in Benin was most impressive. Considering they didn't have modern day tools and they still made art, that is an accomplishment. I think that their art also improved us today because our art is very advanced and them being known for their great art might have contributed to that.

I believe that while they are all impressive Kilwa was the most impressive. Think about how it is a cultural melting pot; Arabs and many people from the Indian Ocean came there. Everyone else was discovered later while Kilwa was known to people.

I agree. It's impressive how it helped trade. It's true that it was discovered first but I think that's mainly due to how it was on the coast.

I found all 4 of the African kingdoms to be fascinating. However, I think the stone churches of Ethiopia to be the most impressive. I think it is crazy how they were able to dig their way down 30 or more feet to build/ hollow out a stone church. They made it out of stone due to the lack of building resources, this shows that the Ethiopians were extremely resourceful. A close second for me was Kilwa. Kilwa is cool because they did so much trading that a new culture and language developed that still is used in 2 different countries today. The walls of Great Zimbabwe are cool but everyone builds walls, not everyone builds a stone church into the ground. Finally, the masks and artwork of Benin express cultural ideas but again cannot compete with a church built out of volcanic rock. I am not even sure if there are other underground churches like this in the world. This makes the Ethiopian churches even more unique in my opinion.

At first I was saying Kilwa was most impressive, but now that I think about you have a point, not everyone can build underground churches out of volcanic rock. Don't get me wrong trading so much that you make a whole new culture and language is awsome, but come on a volcano church, now that's cool.

I think the walls of Great Zimbabwe. Why?Well they were not held by any mud or anything and the weaker they look that means the wealthier he was.

I think that Kilwa was the most impressive. I think this beachside they controlled trade, and when you trade you get things that you need to survive. It was also impressive that they combined two cultures when they created Swahili.

I found Great Zimbabwe's walls the most impressive. They didn't use any sort of sticky product to put the walls together. But, they were used to show Great Zimbabwe's power, and how wealthy they were.

I agree with Luke, it was used to show power. The walls didn't need support for it to stand.

I think the walls of Great Zimbabwe because they used nothing to connect the large bricks. It is still standing currently. It was used to show the power and what they can do.

I think Kilwa was the most impressive because when you think about it what is is more important art, buildings, ect. or trade with practically the whole Indian Ocean. Without the trade Kilwa problebly wouldn't have been as successful as it was for the time it was around. As well when I think of more impressive I think of how successful or powerful, I don't think of art or buildings.

I think that Benin's art is the most impressive. Yes, they are not giant monuments, but if you think about it, the art is impressive. The fact that the art is still popular and has made Benin known is pretty impressive if you ask me.

I think that the most impressive was Ethiopia giant volcanic rock churches. Why well, because those churches are really different than the ones we learned already because building a whole church under ground is a hard processe.
