I think that the roman republic wouldn't have ended if Julius Caesar hadn't existed. If Julius was never alive, that means the Senate would have no reason to kill Julius so that the republic would be saved. Julius' son wouldn't have taken over to begin the empire because he wouldn't have been alive, because Julius wouldn't have been.

But you have to remember that Julius' son was adopted. Thus had Julius not exist, it wouldn't necessarily stop Octavian/Augustus from taking over and beginning the empire.

Dylan, I totally understand what you're getting at. But, I believe that back then and in society today a child's life depends on who raises the child. Caeser was a powerful man and only because of that, Octavian did what he did. He most likely would not be able to construct the Roman Empire if he was not the adopted son of Julius Caeser. So, if Julius didn't exist, there would still be an Octavian. But Octavian would've been raised by whoever else, so Octavian wouldn't be able to obtain the power he once did if his adopted father was not to exist.

The reason in my opinion why Augustus was powerful was because JC was his father. If Caesar didn't exist would we even know who Octavian was?

That is very true! So, Augustus could have taken over and began something new.

i agree maybe it would be different because if Julius didn't become a general Agustin wouldn't be inspired to become a emperor. so Julius is a big role in this

I think that the Roman republic would not have ended if Julius Caesar had not existed. I think this because either way Rome would have come to figure out that it would be a very good idea to have a republic. They would have also figured out it would have been more beneficial for there army to win more wars.

Yes because when the Senate killed Julius the Roman Republic fell shortly after. Julius also won many battles for Rome and defeated Gaul. Rome also took over all of the Mediterranean sea because Julius knew how to fight and without Julius Rome would be finished because Rome would not have as good as an army.

It couldn't have been what he did, all he did was protect the plebeians to get them equal rights, only that the patricians didn't seem to want the plebeians happy. Patricians made the incorrect decision..

I agree with both of you but, the Roman Republic fell because Julius was killed by the Senate. The Senates and Pompey started to dislike Julius because they predicted and thought that Julius would become too in control and they were at a disadvantage. Which is consider a action by getting called back to Rome. The Senate told Caesar to come back by himself, but he came back with a strong and brave army. Sadly, Julius's best friend led him to where the Senate were waiting for him, and then Julius's friend was the first to stab him!😢 Then after that they started to become excited, but not for the Plebeians! They were very upset and lost hope that they would get they would ever get the right to know the laws and have more advantages. Patricians😄/Plebeians😢

Daniel, I completely agree. If you think about it, if Julius never existed, then Gaul would still had been one of Rome's enemies. If Julius had never lead the army to Gaul, maybe a different general, they might had attacked and lost. Due to the way things were back before common era, Gaul would retaliate. This may had created some serious consequences including Rome being destroyed, the empire never forming and the downfall of one of the worlds greatest early civilizations.

Daniel, I definitely agree with you! Because, he pretty much seemed to save the plebeians as well. He pretty much brought peace to them. What a shame the Senate didn't think so. If they didn't kill Julius Rome would have improved because of the balance he brought to them.

I disagree Dan. Yes Julius was a great general but there were other great generals. Someone would have eventually defeated Gaul. Rome was getting bigger and bigger as its many different legions were conquering all around the Med. Sea. All would not have been loss if JC didnt exist.

I think that the Roman republic would have ended any way, because if Caesar became too powerful then it would be likely for any other person to do the same. I also believe this, because there are a lot of popular people in our world today who get so self centered and think of their selves higher than anyone else.

I totally agree with you, Josie. Many people do want to claim power for themselves, so it would have just been a matter of time before the next 'Julius Caesar' came along and threatened the Senate's power. Great comment! :)

I believe that if Julius Caesar never existed, then Rome's republic would still end, but just slower. For one, while Julius Caesar was away, the officials/ rich people (maybe even the dictator) were becoming corrupted and greedier.

Sorry Claire and Kiley, but I disagree with you. I think that if Julius Caesar did not exist, the Roman Republic still would have ended. I do, however, agree with you Han. The Senate was becoming greedier and greedier while Caesar was leading wars. When he declared himself dictator for life, the Senate feared they lost their power, but they wouldn't admit that. They claimed they were saving the Republic as they killed Caesar. Caesar's death outraged the Plebeian's and this is said to have been the end of the Republic. If Julius Caesar did not exist, there would most likely have been another person who wanted power that the Plebeian's liked, which would intimidate the Senate. This would lead to the same ending as what happened previously in history, the Senate killing whomever they want, just to stay in power.

I think the Roman Republic would have ended if Julius Caesar didn't exist because there could have been other empires that arose and had a stronger army. Also the Plebeians could have left the Republic due to unfair treatment compared to the Patricians. This would result the Republic to have no army so they would get crushed by any other empire.

I definitely agree with you. Although the senate does acquire power among the government, it seemed to turn them into greedy, malicious, control-freaks. This occurred after the Ides of March, 44 BC, the day of Caesar's death. After this day, Julius ceased to exist, and the empire fell. If Caesar never existed, the Roman empire quite possibly fallen the same way, maybe even sooner than it did if Caesar existed.

I feel that, if Julius Caesar ceased to exist, the Roman Empire would have fallen, anyway. Without him, the empire itself might not have expanded so vastly due to conquering. When Caesar died on March 15, 44 BC, the Patricians figured they were helping to "save" the republic, but really, were causing it to hit rock bottom. They seemed to do it with a greedy point of view, thinking they would gain more power. My point is, after Caesar's murder, there was a war within the empire, if you will because Julius ceased to exist. So, if he never existed, the senate would become so powerful, the Plebeians would end up fighting against their decisions, thus, causing the empire to fall.

I do think that the Roman Republic would have ended at some point because everything has an ending. Either there was a major civil war that would change everything, or a different dictator made himself dictator 4life and then do the same actions as Julius thus making the republic fall and end to its doom. The republic would end at some point even if Julius didn't exist in some way,

I think the Roman republic would have ended because the Plebians were getting sick of how they were treated anyway and they were planning to make equal rights and stepped off the battle field, so yes, the Roman Republic would have ended either way.

I believe this because I would think there would probably be other people that love power and just want more and more. Also, I think the Patricians rules would outrage the Plebleians until they cant take it anymore. Another reason that Libby already pretty much stated that the Patricians will kill anyone that will threaten their power.

I think that the Roman republic would have not ended. I think that because Julias Cesur made all the plablians happy by giveing them all new jobs that get paid more. That made the Patritians mad because they did not get paid as much. Wich lead to the death of Julias Cesur. When the patritians killed Cesur that made all the plablians mad because they lost all their jobs. And that made the patritians really poor again.

It probably would not end because someone would eventually take charge as dictator. But since the Plebeians where much more pleased with Julius Caesar then the other Patricians rules and laws, it led to the poor being in more discomfort and safeness.

Plus on the empire they would of killed my favorite ruler so my life would not be very happy for a while.
