Kilwa was best known for their trade on the Indian Ocean, Benin is best known for their art, Ethiopia is best known for their massive volcanic churches, & Great Zimbabwe is best known for their stone walls. Which one did you find most impressive? Why?

G.Z. is definitely the most impressive. If you have ever tried to build a wall like that you know it is very difficult. The rocks are very difficult to balance and fit together. The crazy part is, the people in G.Z. built walls in this fashion that are still here today!!!!!

I diss agre because if you think about it they can be knoked down easy. Etheopia's cuches can't and they had to be dug into the ground.

I agree with you, Brandon. It is very hard to put those rocks together. They are even still standing today so that is pretty impressive.

I disagree too Brandon. I agree with Paris because the walls would fall down kinda easily cause they are very thin.

I agree with you Brandon how you say it was uneven but still standing today. But know if something wrong with a build and not balance people get a fit about it.

I totaly agree with you, because if you have ever played he game jenga.... pretty much the same thing. Just on a much more difficult level! jenga's only like 7 inches these walls were over 100 feet.

I disagree with you Brandon.Ethiopia's buildings,(in my opinion) were a little bit harder to build, because they had to dig the huge hole, then make stairs to get down there, then build the church. Which is one of the reasons why they only built 11 churches.

Ethopia because they had to dig into the ground to make these chuches. I know g.z. made the walls that lasted a very long time but they could be knoked down easy. Benin and art I think it is cool but not cool enough. Last trade that is cool but trade can die down.

I disagree because all the Ethiopians did was make churches. They had no impressiveness.

I find Great Zimbabwe's walls the most impressive because they are impressively built. They didn't even use mortar. They did this for a weird reason, just to honor the king.

I would say G.Z. because they showed the power of the king just with walls. Everyone else did decoration and trade nothing important to the king. So I say G.Z.

I have to disagree with you, Anthony, because all G.Z ever did was create these walls and then lived off pretty boring after that. The other 3 groups made numerous accomplishments in multiple fields.

I think the civilization with the biggest accomplishment is probably Kilwa. They increased trade with everyone along the entire Indian Ocean. Imagine walking through the torturous Sahara dessert for days to get to this trade route and spread culture. In my opinion, trade is the most important thing to do with Africa because that is the only reason other civilization new people lived there in the first place. The walls that G.Z. built wouldn't do much if no one knew about African civilizations enough to come there.

I agree with you Amy, they did create new trade routes. Also Swahili was important to, because that's what most East Africans speak now.

I agree with Amy too because they did a lot of stuff and they started all of the routes. They also had a lot of gold so more people came to trade

I found all 4 of the African kingdoms to be fascinating. However, I think the stone churches of Ethiopia to be the most impressive. I think it is crazy how they were able to dig their way down 30 or more feet to build/ hollow out a stone church. They made it out of stone due to the lack of building resources, this shows that the Ethiopians were extremely resourceful. A close second for me was Kilwa. Kilwa is cool because they did so much trading that a new culture and language developed that still is used in 2 different countries today. The walls of Great Zimbabwe are cool but everyone builds walls, not everyone builds a stone church into the ground. Finally, the masks and artwork of Benin express cultural ideas but again cannot compete with a church built out of volcanic rock. I am not even sure if there are other underground churches like this in the world. This makes the Ethiopian churches even more unique in my opinion.

I find Great Zimbabwe more impressive then all. I only find it more impressive because I like how every body thought the wall was meant for protection but really it was for how rich you were and important. Also because how big it was long and every thing just wow.

I think that Kilwa was the most impressive because they got very rich off of this. They traded with China, India, and Arabia. Those places had lots of different resources than Africa.

I would honestly say great Zimbabwe, because there known for,not only building walls of stone but the stone walls were even made just to show off.I believe that will keep me intreaged. Even explorers thought Zimbabwe was not build by africans.

I think the most impressive African kingdom to me was Ethiopia, because it was so cool how they built churches out of red volcanic rock that had erupted. They probably had to dig the hole that they build the church in too. Also, they were build over 900 years ago and there still in good condition.

I think Great Zimbabwe is the most impressive. I think this because of the walls. They were used for symbolic purposes instead of military purposes.

I agree that the walls were very impressive. They used these walls to show a king's power and not to block anybody out of their kingdom.

I think the most impressive one was great zimbabwe's walls. Why, bcause the walls were made to show wealth not to protect them, which means they did not even secure the walls together they really just stacted each block on top of each other. Kinda like the game jenga, just a lot more difficult! the walls took over 300 years to build!

I agree with you. Not only would the walls be hard to build, they'd be expensive. There must've been lots of workers, and those workers had to be paid. I don't know what minimum wage in great Zimbabwe would've been, but multiplied by at least 1000 (workers) then multiplied by 300 (years to build) is a LOT of money.

I think that the walls are the most impressive. I do because, I know how hard it is to build without any mortar. I know this because, we build brick structure in our backyard. As you could probably guess, my dad does not let me use mortar in our backyard. So if building a 2ft tall wall is hard, I could guess that building a giant 16 ft tall wall is a pretty big feet of engineering.

I would have to say great Zimbabwe. The massive walls were awesome and most have took years to build. The volcanic churches are cooler but the walls are just awesome, like a big jenga tower!

G.Z ( Great Zimbabwe), is in my opinion the most impressive kingdom. They built those stone walls and didn't use anything to "stick" them together! They carved each and every stone so specifically so that they could stack up on top of eachother and form these walls.

I find Ethiopia to be the best. This is because it took forever to dig up the holes into the ground. Then build the actual building inside of that hole.It probably would take a long time just to build one church, after all they did only build 11 churches. That seems pretty impressive to me.
