Yes, I think Hannibal of Carthage was a good general. I think he was a good general because he had many tricks up his sleeve. For example, When Hannibal and his army were trapped between the mountains, he sent one person up and lots of oxen to trick the Romans. Him and his whole army escaped except for that one person. So what? one person died, isn't one better than all.? This is why I think Hannibal was a good general.

I agree with you Cheyenne, because Hannibal did have many tricks on him which helped him in battle and being a great general(personal perspective). I also agree with you because It was smart for Hannibal to trick Rome with the cattle allowing Hannibal and his soldiers the ability to sneak away from the Romans.

I agree with Cheyenne. Cheyenne says that Hannibal had many tricks up his sleeve. That is true. Cheyenne also provides and example of a trick Hannibal pulled. The trick Cheyenne says Hannibal did is also true.

I think Hannibal is a great leader for Carthage. I think this because he has a great mind and helps out his army. Like when he had the elephants with the sharp blades on their tusks, that really gave his army a leg-up in their game. Also, he gave Carthage equal rights. Lastly, he had a lot of great ideas for Carthage, which helped Carthage out in the Punic Wars

I think Hannibal was a great leader because he had plans for the future and was ready for any challenges. One of his plans was to bring war elephants. Hannibal also wasn't a great leader because he lost every Punic War.

He also wasn't because he fell into traps. And as a good general you are supposed to avoid traps. He was lead into a small pathway and was defeated. Therefore he was a good general and also a not so great general.

I agree with you Alex. Hannibal was a great leader, but he lost every Punic War. He was a great leader though too; He thought out every fight though. He could think of any trap - and he could do it in very little and scary time.

I think that Hannibal was a good general. I think that Hannibal was a good general because, Hannibal had spies which helped him know what was going on with his enemies so he could come up with plans without his enemies even knowing. I also think that Hannibal is a good general because, Hannibal had elephants which helped Hannibal defeat Rome since Hannibal's soldiers were on the elephants so Rome had to kill the big elephants which was not easy. My last reason why I think Hannibal was a great general because, Hannibal thought of all the odds and made the right choices, which helped Hannibal win many battles. A example is when Hannibal had his first battle against Rome. Hannibal was near a river so Hannibal and his army crossed causing Rome to cross the river out of obligation. As Rome started crossing the river, Hannibal and his army then dominated the Romans because Hannibal made the right choice. That is why I think that Hannibal was a great general.

I agree with Myles that Hannibal was very clever to put spies out to warn him when Rome was attacking. Going through the river was also a good choice by Hannibal because if you wait for Rome to come then cross the river you will get destroyed because you are slower in the water than you are on land. This is why I agree with myles.

I agree with Myles. Hannibal persevered through the hardest of times. He made some mistakes, but nobodies perfect. He was not just kind to his men, he was a very good war strategist. His cleverness almost led to the downfall of Rome

I think Hannibal was one of the sons of Hamilcar Barca, a Carthaginian leader. He was born in what is present day Tunisia. He had several sisters and two brothers, Hasdrubal and Mago . ...After Carthage's defeat in the First Punic war, Hamilcar set out to improve his family's and Carthage's fortunes.

I think Hannibal was a good general. I think Hannibal was a good general because he was able to think of great plans to trick the Romans. Hannibal also had some great achievements. For example, in the second Punic War Hannibal was able to march his army (including war elephants) over the Alps. Even though Hannibal lost to the Romans three times, I think he is still a great general.

I agree with Regis. Hannibal was a good general that had tricks and plans to lure the Romans into a trap that will cause devastation. This was a great weakening to the Romans. Even the discouragements that overcame him. And the fact that he lost all three wars, I still think that he was a good general.

I agree with you Regis but there was still a few problems that made Hannibal not the greatest general like how he decided to cross the mountains again which was one of the most gravest mistakes he could make. Even though Hannibal made those mistake he to me was a somewhat good general even if he lost.

I think that Hannibal was a great general. His strategies and ideas have been very useful in the Punic wars. Using elephants was a great idea. Romans did not know what elephants were. The special spikes that are attached to the elephants tusk are able to plow through and kill people. Hannibal was able to lure many of the Roman generals and attack them. That is why I think Hannibal was a good general.

I think Hannibal is half and half i think he was but at the same time he wasn't. The reason I think he wasn't is because he killed a lot of his people making dumb decisions and when they were low on resources he still made them fight. I think he is because he had good plans like when he made the one soldier and the oxen go up the hill.

I think Hannibal was a good general. He might be an enemy from another's perspective, but he was just trying to make Carthage more powerful than Rome. His feud against Rome was personal, but he waged war for his fellow Carthaginians as well. He wasn't spoiled and new how to work hard in the army. He cared for his men. A bad general would sit on the sidelines and watch his men get killed. But, Hannibal started as a soldier and worked his way up the social class and was promoted to general. He could have lived the high life as a general in the beginning, but he felt that respect was earned, not given. The roman generals were viewed as greedy to me. They didn't think of their country, but instead wanted glory. Some generals were great, but a lot were just there for power. Therefore, I think Hannibal was a great general.

I think Hannibal was a good general. Hannibal made very wise and smart decisions while fighting against Rome. Like the time he and his army trick the Romans by attaching torches to the oxens horns at night and the Romans thought, it was Hannibal's army.

I think Hannibal was a good general too ! He knew what he was going to do before he did it in other words he always had a plan. For example, when Hannibal was in the second punic war he brought war elephants to help him fight also when he sent up a person with oxen to trick the Romans into thinking it was Carthage .

I believe that Hannibal was a good general. He had good plans, and good traps.Even though Hannibal lost all 3 wars, he is still a good general.Hannnibal beat many Roman troops. Like in the tightly packed mountains. The Romans were prepared to kill Hannibal, but he would not die in the hands of Romans so he killed himself. He never gave up on the Carthage people. Also, he was smart enough to bring in never-seen animals to dominate The romans.

I do believe Hannibal was a good general. I believe this because of all the plans he came up with to fight the Romans. He was very clever and also treated all his soldiers equally. When he thought of his plans he always thought what was best and what would benefit him and his soldiers the most. Most of the plans he had came up with never failed. Even when he was caught he stayed true to Carthage and kept his dignity. He took his own life instead of dying in the hands of his worst enemies.

I agree with Riley because he did take his own life instead of dying in the hands of his worst enemies that also killed his father. I also agree because I feel like he would put both him and his soldiers first which I think is good because I feel like other generals would only care about themselves because they want to be alright. They would also care about their soldiers but not as much as Hannibal did.

I also think that he was a good general because he treated all of his soldiers equally. He was good general because he was clever and made plans that tricked Rome that way they could escape. Overall I think that Hannibal was a great general.

It is hard to take the opposite opinion of this class because there are so many source pointing to Hannibal being one of Rome's greatest enemies. And if Hannibal is a great enemy, he must be a great general. But lets look at perspective. The Carthaginians didn't have written records. So who stated Hannibal was a great general, the Romans did. Maybe the Romans wrote he was so great to make them look even better. History is never written by the loser rather by the victor. So sometimes you might need to question the source of the material. I mean could he have been that great of a general to bring his troops over the Alps and the Apennines? He lost alot of men doing so....Just think about it!
