The Vikings got a pretty bad reputation in Medieval Christian Europe. Did they deserve this bad reputation? Why or why not? (Think about the places the attacked and who wrote about the history of the Viking). Maybe rewatch Crash Course History: Vikings for more info!

The vikings got a bad reputation on lots of things. One of the main ones was that they raided or attacked where monks live and that was shamed upon them. They also were not Christian until later after but until they were they were seen as uncivilized.

I agree with you Wally that they got a bad reputation because of their way of attacking Monasteries which was filled with monks who did not know how to fight. But, I think that they did not deserve this reputation.

I agree with you Nathan, the Vikings did not deserve the bad reputation. Even though, they burned down the monasteries, it was their choice to be feared. They wanted people to not like them. In a way, they wanted the bad reputation. So, yes, I agree with you that the Vikings should not have deserved the bad reputation, even though their actions were bad.

I agree with you Wally, because they attacked monasteries they had a bad reputation. These attacks were because they had Pagan gods, so they were known as uncivilized.

Very true Walter. The Vikings wee raiders and should have the reputation in my opinion. They should have it because they destroyed the Monestaties. These were religious buildings that did nothing wrong but the Vikings destroyed them. Now if they were barbaric or not, I do not know. They did not seem too unsanitary or like gross...

I think that the vikings did not have a bad reputation. Sure they attacked monasteries but they did not know any better to do any thing. But I think at one point the vikings did know what they were doing and earned a reputation.

I agree that they earned a reputation. The Vikings for what they did earned it but they also may have wanted a reputation. So maybe they did it for reputation.

I think that the Vikings actually liked the title and the fear they spread throughout Europe. With that title they probably used it to strike fear into their hearts and used it to make raiding and killing easier. They attacked Monasteries just for the gold and riches. The Monasteries used to collect offerings for the benefit of the Church.

I agree that they might have wanted the reputation but they didn't deserve it. The vikings were actually very civilized.

I agree Peter because the Vikings did like to strike fear into Europe so that they could get all the gold that is donated to the churches. Also the Vikings did have the lightning attacks when they attacked the montstaries

I think the Vikings did not deserve a bad reputation. I believe this because if you think about what they did in depth it was smart. If you are them what they are doing is not that bad and the people that wrote their bad reputation are the people that got beaten by the Vikings.

I think the Vikings like the reputation and deserved it. I think they like it because people were afraid of them. People like it when people are afraid of them becuase it makes them the bigger person and thats the mindset the vikings had.

I agree with you Ena because yes because they wanted people to think of them scary so then they would know not to attack them so they took stuff that made them crazy, attacked religious places.

I think the viking do deserve the bad reputation because one the way they acted at war and just attacking. So you don't take something that makes you go crazy and attacking. So yes they deserve it for the way they acted and they wanted people to think they are scary by the way they acted

I think that the vikings didn't deserve the reputation they got. They were very good at sea, and their lightning attacks were almost impossible to defend. They also were very civilized, and what they called "the thing" reflected todays government.

I think why the Vikings had a bad reputation because they attacked many places. Like, monasteries, churches, and many more with monks. I think that the Vikings did not deserve the bad reputation.

The Vikings had a bad reputation for a lot of things. But one of them was there lightning attacks. This was bad because they targeted monasteries and churches. They did this because they had no protection, they had lots of riches, and they were not Christians . It was called a lightning attack because they would raid these places before an army would come.

I think they deserved the bad rep. because they were ruthless. They burned down monasteries and raided them. They also killed people in side them. The people who wrote the history was those people, those that survived.

While they did some pretty brutal stuff they definitely made profit out of it. I would have done the same thing as it's practically a bank with no protection at all, who wouldn't rob it?

I think the Vikings reputation did belong to them. They raided religious buildings, which is bad enough alone. They also destroyed whole villages and looted them before people could even say something! The Vikings were pretty barbaric and did definitely deserve their reputation.

It depends on who is saying what. They attacked many religious sites like monasteries which disrespected the Christians and made them all furious. Coming from a POV of a Christian they definitely would deserve such a reputation, but coming from a POV of a non christian they don't.

At first the vikings were thought of as ruthless animals. At first they were, however over time they became civilized and smart. They did not deserve this reputation in my opinion.
