No, I don't think it was right for charlemagne to force people to convert. People should have freedom to choose their religion. If people are forced to think something they will probably have a weak or doubtful faith in the forced idea.
I partly agree with you, Brandon. People should have their freedom, but Christianity did survive because of Charlemagne.
I see how you would think people need freedom and all. But I would say he can do anything because he is King.
yes sean i completly agree because charlemagne did carry them on his shoulders
I somewhat agree with you Brandon, but like Sean said if he didn't force people to convert to Christianity, it wouldn't have survived for long.
I think Charlemagne was right because that made Christianity survive. He probably did it too brutally, though. I would've just persuaded them to switch.
I know that he made a religion survive, but he also cut off many other religions. Maybe he could've figured out another way to convert people to Christianity instead of using violence.
What Charlemagne did was wrong. I would agree with what you said second.
I agree with you Sean but would the people who belev in the other gods not like him anymore because he is killing people who don't belev in Christianity.
No. I say no because, if people want to believe in their own religion then they should stick with what they think is true. If you had your own religion, would you want to be forced to switch to Christianity.
You do have a point Etta if i had a different religion I would not want to change it. But if you think about what he did to you and how he raids your town I would switch.
I agree with you Etta. You should stick with your religion.Charlamagne should have just persuaded them to change like Sean said so if not then all those religion would still be here in this world today still living on, but in reality they are all forgot to most because of Charlamagne.
I think what Charlemagne did was wrong. Although Christianity was saved, I think his kingdom could have been ran a lot better for living if he had a religious tolerance, like rulers in India had.
I would agree with the tolerance but how would their religion spread if most of Europe was mostly Christains
I agree with you Amy. I am glad that Christianity was saved, but i think that Charlemagne could have done it less warlike. like the monks. their way of spreading Christianity was non-violent. Plus, monks helped the poor by giving food, clothes, and shelter while still teaching Christianity.
I agree with you Amy because he probably wouldn't even had a Pope because there's lots of other religions.
I think that he was right because he is king and he can do what ever he wants. It might have been rough but he strongly believed in Christianity.
So I would say he can do what ever cause he is king.
No he can't. Even though he was a king that doesn't mean you can go around killing. Selfish ruling like that ended in the magna carta. So even though he is a king, he can't go around killing people that is just selfish and cruel.
No. It's not right to force people to your religion. They should be aloud to stay in their main religion.
I think that people should be able to choose what to believe in. Imagine if this were in modern times. If someone forced you to believe in the Illuminati, do you think that you'd be happy about it? so these people should have had every right to believe in what they want.
I agree. Everyone should be able to believe in whatever you want. Specifically, religion.
I think that Charlemagne was not right for forcing people to covert to Christianity. I think this because you should let people have the freedom to choose their religion, not force them to be one single religion. But, if Charlemagne didn't force people to convert, I think that Christianity would not be as popular as it is now.
I kinda agree with you Jenna because yeah people should not be forced to change religion, but also like you said there probably be hardly any Christianity! Because people need their freedom.
I say no. This is because I think you should be abled to have freedom and believe in your own religion.I would rather die believing in my origanal religion than live and believe in a totally different religion.
I agree because you would have to grow up learning something totally different your hole life.It was learn something new or die so you would learn something new.
I it was good so Christian's could be saved and the population would get bigger and better and we would get stronger and also he is a king so he what wanted to do. But then it was wrong because some people like to worship there on god and do there on religions. But this is history and we cant change it.
I think it was right because either way that was mostly spread around and you would be killed because Christianity was the most common religion around Europe but the other religions were going against Christians because they want their religion to be known and all Christianity would reduce war
I say no it was not right because people have the right to belev in there own god. I know that he is the king but it dose not mean that the people cant belev in there god.
No i don't think he should have killed them but I think he was trying to look out for everyone's best interests. He could have done it better if he asked them and had not slaughtered them. They probally would say no but his way was much worse so I think that he was sinning more by killing them than them not being christian.
I mean it probably wasn't right but at the same time its good that he did it, or else we would probably almost be all Muslim. I don't think it was right that he forced them to change to Christianity, It would be like someone coming into our country and saying switch to this religion or i'll kill you... sounds really kinda harsh when you say it like that!
I agree with you Lilli , because he forced people to be Christians but at the same time he did end up saving Christianity. Also, if he wanted everybody to be Christian he should have just called a meeting or something not kill people.
I don't think that Charlemagne was right for making people be Christian, because people are how they are and you can't force them to be something their not. If you had different beliefs then you should not have been killed just because you didn't believe in something somebody else did. Also, Charlemagne should not have put fear into everybody because if they were powerful enough they could have ended up killing him.
I think Charlemagne shouldn't have forced everyone to become Christian because then he wouldn't have had any problems with the Pope. But, it did make everyone like Charlemagne because when they die they would go to Heaven.
yeah because then he would have his people together as one and they would have the same religion which would bring them closer. They would also not have any fighting with their neighbors about their religion. They could talking and be in one place and there wouldn't be a lot of different buildings around.
I disagree with you Jada. What if they don't want to get separated from their religion. They can always change their minds and trick him. They will betrade him if they have/want to.
I think that what Charlemagne did was COMPLETELY wrong. He shouldn't have forced people into switching religion. Even though it might have saved Christianity, people should be able to believe in whatever they wanted.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
